Boracay Travel Guide 2022: How to get your Tourist QR Code (Updated March 2022)

Last December, we went to Boracay to celebrate my birthday and it was AMAZING!

But before all the tanning and swimming, I tell you that the process of getting a QR Code for a Tourist is kind of strenuous but it is manageable when you have all the documents and requirements.

In this blog, I will discuss how a tourist from outside Aklan can enter the paradise island of Boracay. And with the onset of Omicron spread in the country, Aklan is changing the guidelines based on the Alert Level.

So here is the step by step procedure for your Boracay Travel Guide:

1. Secure a flight booking

Before you can even register as a tourist, you must have a plane ticket or itinerary receipt from airlines (arrival and departure). This will determine how many days you are going to stay in Boracay. The Malay Tourism Office requires a valid plane or sea travel ticket from the travelers to ensure that the tourists can travel in and out of the island.

2. Book a hotel room reservation

Yes, you need an advanced booking of hotel accommodation if you are not planning to stay with a relative in Aklan. With this, it is expected that your hotel, inn, or condotel will also closely coordinate with the Tourism Office to help your Tourism code validation.

3. Prepare your travel documents

Get your passport ready because you will be needing it when you fill-up the Health Declaration Form by Tourist Boracay. But just in case, you don’t have one, you can still use your senior citizen’s ID, SSS, Tin ID, or any Government-issued ID as an alternative.

4. Undergo RT-PCR (Swab Test) if you are not Covid-19 vaccinated!

Tourists who are not vaccinated yet will be required to present NEGATIVE RT-PCR results. Kids and vaccinated tourists are exempted from getting swab tests. The extraction must be done within 72 hours or 3 days to the flight schedule. For vaccinated tourists, you just need to present your Vaccine certificate.

5. Fill up the Health Declaration Form

Visit the official website of Tourist Boracay and input your contact details including your itinerary and booking details. You can only access the date 4 days within or on the date of your flight schedule.

Below is the sample of the Health Declaration Form. Take note that your Negative SWAB Test result should be uploaded along with your Vax Cert if you are vaccinated.

Tips for easier QR Code generation

• Take note that you must not leave any blank space.
• Put NA if your answer is not applicable.
• When you upload your documents, rename them to easily locate from your drive folders and for the Tourism Office easier review of your documents.
• Do not put space in between words of your file name. You can put underscore “_” to separate words
• Some choices are on default mode like the section in the “Travel Details” with the default option of “Sea”
• Make sure that the details you put in the form are the same as the documents (Hotel Reservation file, Flight Itinerary file, etc.)
• In case you don’t have a passport, upload a government-issued ID such as Senior Citizen ID, Tin ID, SSS ID, Voter’s ID, Driver’s License ID, etc.
• For minors, you can upload a PSA-certified Birth Certificate. I will discuss the requirements later
• As much as possible, make your file as small as you can with a maximum size of 2 MB per file so you won’t encounter problems uploading your documents.
• If it is taking longer to upload a file, try to refresh the site.

Once you are done with the details and you got checkmarks on your file uploads, input the captcha code and submit. You will be redirected to another page like the one below with your QR Code.

You can also click the “Preview & Screenshot OHDC” to see the details of your form with your QR Code. This is what we presented at the airport and Caticlan port.

I suggest that you print out or get hard copies of these:

• OHDC with QR Code
• passport or valid gov’t issued ID
• Hotel reservation email copy
• Flight itinerary receipt
• Vaccination Certificate (For vaccinated adults and teens)

Unvaccinated Tourist

If you have a friend or relative who hasn’t been vaccinated but wants to explore Boracay, he/she can also visit the island by presenting negative RT-PCR results (Swab test result) within 3 days before the flight. On the Health Declaration Form, upload the scanned copy of his/her swab test result on the VaxCErt/Vaccination Certificate/RT-PCR section.

Make sure they have printed copies of these

• OHDC with QR Code
• passport or valid gov’t issued ID
• Hotel reservation email copy
• Flight itinerary receipt
• RT-PCR Negative Result Certificate (saliva, nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal) with the date of extraction within 72 hours to date of travel

Minors

In case you decide to travel with kids, Tourism Boracay will ask for additional requirements from your end as their guardian/parents.

For non-schooling minors, you can upload a birth certificate or passport on the “ID/Passport” section. Accomplish the Certificate of Undertaking Travelling with Minors from here and upload it under the Vaxcert section.

Your OHDC QR Code is auto-generated and in case there is an issue with your documents or details, a tourist validator will immediately contact you for further questions. You can also reach the Tourist Boracay Office through their hotlines and socials.

If you wish to extend your stay in Boracay, you must notify the Tourism office ahead of time and send an email of a new booking slip to touristboracay@gmail.com

Your OHDC QR Code will expire twelve (12) hours from your accommodation checkout time.

ISSUE ON VALIDATION OF QR CODE

In our case, our QR Codes were not fully validated when we checked on the website and the site indicates that our codes were still under review before our flight. We called the Aklan Tourism Office to request validation and they courteously answered that our codes were good as validated as long as there were no “X” marks on our status.
